NW Wisconsin's Northern Lights Camera Club presents:
Fall Photo Show Saturday, Sept 6, 2008
hosted by Black Iris Gallery & Custom Framing
~ policies to date ~
Dates: Open to the public on Saturday, September 6, 2008, with a gallery reception that afternoon/evening. The Club will need to determine the best time for the reception...? The show will remain hanging until Saturday, September 20, and participants will pick up any unsold work the following week. Inventory: Each photographer should bring a list of his/her items with them to the night of the show hanging. The list should include their name and all titles, sizes, and selling prices. We need to track inventory carefully to avoid miscommunications when it’s time to settle up. We also need totrack inventory in case of theft, fire, etc., to make an insurance claim. So far that’s never happened, but better safe than sorry.... Hanging: Hanging will be done by the show participants and JoAnn on Thursday, September 4, and will include taking down what’s currently on the walls. I will supply nails, but participants should bring their own hammers if they can—I have only two. Advertising: Club pays for and has complete control over advertising. I recommend using the Spooner Advocate’s new Gallery section and the Yellow Advertiser for display ads—both are effective in attracting locals and second homeowners; I will write press releases free of charge and send them to the local papers in Spooner, Shell Lake, Rice Lake, Hayward, and Superior—any others? Framing: (Click here for all the options the Club discussed last winter and applicable prices, effective as of November 2007.) Club determines with my approval the framing parameters in general (frame size/style/color, mat size/colors). I must insist that all hanging pieces are professionally framed—no dinged frames, no dirty or crooked mats, and no cheap, plastic “walmart” frames. As a frame shop, I cannot have low quality frames hanging on my walls, especially when I’m working to build my reputation as the best frame shop in the area. If the cost of framing a print is a concern for anyone, prints of any size—small or large—can be displayed in the poster bins and card racks, but they must be in plastic sleeves or shrink-wrapped (no Saran-wrap or scotch tape, for instance). Professional presentation is very important. Fixtures: JoAnn will supply the poster bins and card racks. If anyone needs plastic sleeves, I sell them in all sizes—from 5 x 7 up to 20 x 24. Club members get a discount on sleeves. I also have ready-made mats (archival quality) at very low, wholesale prices. I recommend matting all prints, including the ones in sleeves. Food: JoAnn will pay for appetizers and beverages, most likely catered by Spooner Market & Grill. Gallery commission: 15% of selling price, or 10% of selling price on each item framed here. I assume you will want the gallery to collect and pay WI state sales tax. I can do that, but it’s best (and I would prefer) that all customers pay by cash or check only (no debit or credit cards, please). Rental: No charge to the Club to rent the gallery for the show—the space is yours to use for free, and it’s my pleasure! JoAnn Marting, owner/framer
