Originally from Chicago, sports artist Darryl Vlasak now lives and paints in his home studio in northwest Wisconsin. He calls his work realism, explaining, "I paint what I see. I have to. It's who I am."

Vlasak's style is instantly recognizable to his fans and collectors. Those new to Vlasak's work are amazed by the accuracy and detail in his nearly photographic paintings.

"My work is much better than a photograph," says Vlasak. "If you want a photograph, go take a picture with a camera. That's not what I do. My work is realism to the N-th degree. With the layers I use, there is a depth to my work that you simply do not get with a photograph."

Trained at the College of DuPage in Illinois, Vlasak began painting full time in 1990 after several years as a graphic designer in Naperville, Illinois. "I love what I do," says Vlasak. "Sometimes I paint 12 or 15 hours a day. I can't help myself."
